Precision hardened-steel CVD assembly

This aftermarket CVD set is engineered for Traxxas Xmaxx 8S applications requiring increased rotational and torque capacity. Core shafts are manufactured from hardened steel #45 and joint geometry has been refined to limit runout and maintain alignment at high rpm.

The kit replaces axial dogbone elements with thicker hardened-steel components, increasing the dogbone section from 5.5mm to 7mm as supplied, and revises the CVD-to-hex interface to a stainless steel pin through a perforated joint in place of the original fastening method. The revisions prioritise hex retention and consistent drive input under aggressive operation.

Service and installation: the set includes alloy hex adapters and needs basic driveline disassembly to install on front or rear positions. Check hub alignment, bearing preload and set screw torque during assembly to ensure long service life in high-speed use. This product is an aftermarket performance upgrade for RC applications.

Packing includes

  • Hex Adapter - 4pcs
  • Stainless Steel Screw Shaft M5x4x20 - 4pcs
  • Set Screws 5x5 - 4pcs

Compatible Models

  • Traxxas Xmaxx 8S

GPM TXM8170N/2 is supplied as a hardened-steel aftermarket solution for Traxxas Xmaxx 8S users seeking reduced runout and improved hex retention; follow workshop best practice during fitment.

Verify hub to hex concentricity, confirm set screw torque values, and ensure the stainless retention pin is fully seated to prevent early wear and ensure stable operation at speed.
Increasing dogbone section to 7mm and using hardened steel #45 shifts load capacity upward, reducing stress concentration in the shaft and improving resistance to torsional fatigue under high rpm.
Check authorised parts listings for replacement hex adapters or set screws; maintain original parts inventory to match torque and fit specifications during servicing.
Use calibrated torque drivers for set screws, confirm axial runout within acceptable limits, and inspect bearings and hubs after test runs to validate the upgrade under real-world conditions.
