Precision engineered steel and aluminium ball diff

This aftermarket ball differential is engineered as a serviceable replacement for Traxxas Latrax platforms. The unit uses hardened steel running elements together with aluminium output cups and precision ball hardware to deliver a predictable, adjustable torque transfer for Latrax Rally, Latrax Stadium Super Truck (SST) and Teton vehicles.

Internally the assembly features ball bearings, thrust washers, a delrin pulley and aluminium output cups configured to allow preload adjustment via the central screw. Altering the central screw changes the preload on the ball stack and thereby modifies slip characteristics and turn-in response without requiring changes to other drivetrain components.

Designed for hobbyists who prefer to service and tune their drivetrain, the diff is straightforward to disassemble with standard hex drivers and basic workshop tools. Regular inspection of the balls and washers and re-lubrication with a light differential grease will help maintain consistent adjustment and long-term reliability.

For best results inspect bearing surfaces during scheduled maintenance, replace any worn thrust washers or balls, and use minimal grease when rebuilding to preserve precise adjustment feel.

Start with a light preload setting so the balls rotate freely, then incrementally increase preload while evaluating slip under controlled test runs until the desired balance of traction and steering response is achieved.
Inspect the ball bearings, thrust washers and the seating surfaces of the aluminium cups for pitting or deformation; replace any parts showing signs of wear to maintain consistent performance.
The delrin pulley reduces friction on the preload stack and provides a low-wear interface, contributing to smoother adjustment and longer service intervals compared to harder materials.
On loose surfaces reduce preload to allow more slip; on high-grip surfaces increase preload for firmer power transfer. Make changes in small steps and evaluate handling after each adjustment.
